At Silver Travel we like to make sure we have first-hand knowledge of as many destinations as possible, so we can pass our authentic advice and recommendations on to you! So, when we had the change to gather in Malta, the team took the opportunity to soak up all the sights. Here the team shares their highlights, top tips and suggestions.
Go solo
Malta is ideal for solo travellers. You are never far from things to see and do. Strolling through the narrow streets of Valletta you’ll notice Baroque architecture dominating even the most humble of buildings. Stop at one of the tiny pavement cafes and people watch, the head to St John’s Co Cathedral – whichturned out to be one of the biggest surprises for me. The plain military style exterior hides a lavishly decorated interior with Caravaggio paintings amongst the religious art on display. But my highlight was visiting Gozo by ferry. It’s a slower paced version of Malta and I would recommend at least one night there if you can.

Made for memories
Malta has always had a special place in my heart, as it was my first holiday abroad as a teenager with my family, and I have returned a few times since. But to return with the Silver Travel team was great as I got to see places I hadn’t visited before, including Sliema which was stunning and we even went to a lovely restaurant in a cave for dinner which was surreal – and the food was delicious! My favourite part of the trip was getting to swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea on my birthday. Something I don’t get to do very often and was a special moment, I will never forget!
I would thoroughly recommend Malta to anyone looking for a short city break or a longer holiday. There is so much to do and see and it’s easy to get around and explore. They even drive on the left, if you want to hire a car, but the buses and taxis are cheap, as are the ferries across the harbour and over to Gozo and Comino islands.

What’s not to love?
Year-round sunshine, loads of history, fabulous food, lovely hotels and they even drive on the same side of the road as the UK! Malta has some ‘must see’ places if you love old towns and cities. Valletta, the capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Mdina, the Silent City, is where Game Of Thrones was filmed.
Burgu in The Three Cities is one of my favourite places. I love that local people are restoring really old houses to their former glory. If you go in October, you can witness the magical spectacle of Birgu By Candlelight – where the whole village is lit up! As for the food – it’s simply incredible. From Michelin-star restaurants to family-owned coffee shops and delis – there is something for all tastes.
Visit Malta once and I guarantee you’ll be saying ” I’ll be back “.

First-time visitor
Malta completely stole my heart. I went with an open mind – and left already dreaming of a return. The Malta Marriott Hotel & Spa in St Julian’s was the perfect base, with views across Balluta Bay and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. But the real magic was in Vittoriosa (Birgu). Its winding streets, honey-coloured stone, painted doors and colourful balconies feel alive with history. Every corner invites you to pause, look up, and soak in centuries of character.
Exploring the Three Cities led us to a fabulous harbour-side restaurant, where an incredible range of dishes and views across the historic waterfront made lunch unforgettable. Mdina at night is equally captivating. Wandering the quiet, lantern-lit streets before dinner at the historic Bacchus Restaurant inside the city walls felt like stepping back in time.
Malta is culture, colour, and charm – a place that stays with you long after you leave.

From the moment I arrived, I was struck by Malta’s golden limestone architecture and crystal-clear waters. Even in November, the warmth of the sun still lingered. In just a short time, we explored the Three Cities and wandered through Valletta’s charming streets, discovering stunning viewpoints, hidden cafés, and layers of history around every corner.
A visit to Mdina is a must. Known as the Silent City, its peaceful streets and sweeping panoramas feel like stepping back in time. If you love a view then the Upper Barrakka Gardens harbour views are unforgettable. Evenings were spent enjoying delicious local food while watching the sun set over the Mediterranean.
Malta offers the perfect blend of relaxation, culture, and adventure – making it an unforgettable destination, even for a short escape.
