Foreign Office Updates Travel Advice for Gulf Destinations – 18 June 2026
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, lifting its previous advice against all but essential travel.
This is welcome news for travellers visiting the Gulf, as well as those connecting through major hubs such as Dubai and Doha on their way to destinations including Australia, New Zealand, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and other parts of Asia.
While the updated advice means customers can once again travel without the previous FCDO restrictions in place, the FCDO continues to advise that the regional security situation remains unpredictable and could change at short notice. We recommend checking the latest travel advice before you depart and ensuring you have appropriate travel insurance.

Greece reassures UK travellers over summer border checks
British travellers heading to Greece this summer are being reassured that new EU biometric border checks should not cause major delays.
Greece’s tourism minister, Olga Kefalogianni, has confirmed that British visitors will not face additional biometric procedures at the border during the main summer season, with efforts being made to keep checks quick and straightforward.
The EU’s new Entry-Exit System (EES), introduced earlier this year, requires non-EU travellers entering the Schengen area to register biometric information, including fingerprints and facial scans. While some European airports and border points have experienced lengthy queues during the rollout, Greece says it is working to ensure entry procedures take no more than a couple of minutes.
The update will be welcome news for holidaymakers travelling to popular Greek destinations over the coming months.
