We went here for a weekend break with 3 other couples – 2 of which were “Warner Virgins”!! We picked this specific weekend as it suited us all rather than for the acts appearing (Madonna & Take That tributes) – but must say they were both good especially “Take That” who were great! We all had standard Rooms which were quite spacious, very clean with good decor etc. The restaurant had benefited from a noticeable refurbishment since we had last visited and now had a “Seater & Greeter” on duty at the entrance. The Lounge & Bar areas had also had a major facelift which were now much nicer since we were last there. The location of this Warners is brilliant as you can have a lovely walk along the coast and visit some local pubs. Also The Spinnaker Tower & Gunwharf Quays shopping centre is not far away either and well worth a visit. The food was very good with plenty of choice and we had a brilliant waiter, Graeme who was superb! There was a problem on the first morning at breakfast and it was chaotic with insufiicient food on the buffet and no communication as to what had gone wrong (we later learned the ‘steamer’ had broken down) but fortunately there were no other problems over the remainder of the weekend. The reception staff were really friendly (especially June who joined in with our Karaoke efforts on the Saturday night when she was off duty). The facilities for disabled guests are excellent – there didn’t seem to be any accessibilty problems which was borne out by the number of motobility scooters parked outside the dining room every day!!
There was free Wi-Fi in the bar/lounge areas which was good-no need to pay or get a code. The indoor swimming pool is nice and a good temperature – the outdoor pool is only open during the Summer months. The outdoor short mat bowls is good fun and there is a lovely outdoor seating area that is nearby. The only negative during our stay was that on Sunday the place appeared packed out when we returned from a walk with our friends – there wasn’t a spare table to be had anywhere. We discovered that that Warners offer “Day passes” on a Sunday to non residents of the hotel – this was clearly a problem on that day as there seemed to be insufficient space/staff to cope with the extra guests when the hotel was full. Maybe it was because the weather was sunny that more people than usual had taken advantage? However, my parents have stayed at this particular Warners venue over 13 times with another visit planned this summer.
We have stayed at quite a few of the Warner venues preferring the historical hotels such as Littlecote House with it’s Roman mosaic and lovely gardens .Thoresby Hall and Cricket St Thomas also have the perfect blend of a Stately home historical building and beautiful grounds with the benefit of modern facilities.
At some of the Coastal resorts -such as Lakeside the restaurant and entertainment lounge are combined therefore you are allocated the same table for the duration of the evening .The entertainment lounge is separate at the historical hotels and Sinah Warren which we prefer. We have been twice and would not hesitate to return.
We have never been disappointed with any of the Warners we have stayed at – the standard of accommodation, service and food along with the wide range of activities on offer plus the great evening entertainment truly makes for a good value for money holiday! (Especially when they have special offers!!!).
