Whilst in Las Vegas we wanted to go on a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon. We selected Maverick because of an excellent review we read on silvertraveladvisor.com by time traveller. From the options available we selected the Wind Dancer tour, which would land in the canyon.
Maverick picked us up from our hotel close to the Las Vegas strip in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle, which already had other clients on board who would be flying at the same time. We had booked our tour online, so on arrival at the airport (the journey was just a few minutes) we presented our passports, were weighed and made the payment for the trip. Prior to the flight we were briefed on the safety aspects by our excellent pilot Jake, who made the whole experience safe, fun, informative and extremely enjoyable.
Seating in the helicopter is 2 rows of 4 seats, one being the pilot’s. There were 6 passengers on our trip, each couple taking turns to occupy the front seats on each of the 3 legs of our tour. The best views are from the front seats, so get them on the outbound first leg if you can.
The first leg takes you out alongside Lake Mead and for a fly past of the Hoover Dam. Then it’s on to the main event & entering the Grand Canyon. We set down on a ledge overlooking the Colorado river for Champagne and snacks, as well as plenty of photo opportunities. The second leg of the flight is to a refuelling point in the middle of absolutely nowhere (a spectacle in itself). The final leg takes you back to the airport via Fremont St and The Strip.
A similar shared vehicle then returns you to your hotel.
There are a significant number of aspects I haven’t mentioned above, geological formations, towns, wild horses to mention a few, which together with a rousing soundtrack when the pilot isn’t speaking, makes for an amazingly interesting adventure.
I’d join the previous review in totality recommending Maverick for this type of tour.
