Our first visit to this Thomson Gold hotel in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.
We have over the years experienced several Thomson Gold hotels, despite the major benefit of no children allowed, the hotel itself was disappointing and looked a little jaded.
Badly in need of an update would be more exact. Having stayed, as mentioned in other Gold hotels, this one was sadly missing some of the more refined features of Gold standard hotels elsewhere within the Thomson’s group.
Check-in was good and the staff, were most welcoming and helpful. Many speak English as their first language.
Generally facilities were good, with the exception of wi-fi which was a real pain for two weeks. Hit and miss doesn’t begin to explain it. Thank heavens for local bars, were workable wi-fi was available ‘free’.
Restaurant was fair, food choice pretty good (we stayed half board only) and there was always something to choose from. Staff were again helpful and friendly, but food quality not upto other Gold standard hotels. Slightly bland I thought.
Two pools, one near the top of the complex, nearest reception (quiet pool) another at the other end of the complex nearest the beach. Tiled areas need some attention as the tiles are starting to become dislodged and faded, showing their age.
We were unlucky with the weather during our stay, only really enjoying full sunshine for maybe four days out of fourteen nights stay.
Enjoyed the local area, good promenades around the town, but limited footpaths after you exit the main town areas. How many times can you walk into town and back again.
A few words on the entertainment. Whilst I don’t expect ‘West End standard’ entertainment, I was very disappointed with the fare provided. A ‘singing’ duo North by North East, which is about as far away from them as you want to get, if possible. They were dire, the guy did his best to crack a few jokes, but like his guitar playing it was left wanting. Sadly the girls voice and their painful attempts at harmony, left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, a number of my favourite songs were murdered, over the space of two weeks. The local Thomson entertainment Reps, Ian and Natalie were excellent. UK “bussed in’ entertainment, comedian/magician was a vast improvement. However other acts, not quite as good.
So, overall, disappointed with the standards within the hotel. Tired decor and loose tiling around the pools. Most of the lounges looked well lived in. The standard of cleanliness was acceptable, but entertainment sadly lacking. Food good, but not exceptional. The resort, with a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, quite pleasant. Just felt that Thomson Gold standard was slightly tarnished by the Hotel Coronas Playa, Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.
