We flew with LOT Polish Airlines to Lithuania’s capital Vilnius from London City Airport, which was a handy 30-minute taxi ride from our east London home.
Check in opened two hours before our 6.40pm flight, but it was quiet as most customers appeared to fly with hand luggage only. At this point, the flight was delayed by 20 minutes, and so we ensconced ourselves in Hithes Bar and Eatery, choosing a bottle of the cheapest Italian white wine at £39 and a Ploughman’s Platter at £19.99. When the flight was delayed again, we indulged in another glass.
We eventually boarded and took off at 8pm. The configuration was 2 x 2, and we were in row 4a and 4b, the first of economy with only three people in business class (one chancer was told in no uncertain terms by cabin crew to move to his allocated seat 11a).
A complimentary roll, with either a tomato or raspberry filling, was served with a hot or cold drink and we both had a glass of white wine. This was followed by either cashew nuts or a chocolate wafer and a paid for drinks service.
With a scheduled flight time of two and a half hours, we landed an hour late at the local time 12.20am, as Lithuania is two hours ahead. It wasn’t the ideal start to our holiday.
Fortunately, the return journey was more straightforward and although we took off 20 minutes late, the time was made up, and we landed five minutes early.
