We flew British Airways from T3 Heathrow to Bucharest. As the flight time was only just over three hours, we chose to fly standard. However, as we have BA bronze membership, we selected seats seven days beforehand, and opted for 18d and 18e, our favourite across-the-aisle seats in the middle of the aeroplane.
As we’d checked in online 24 hours before departure, it was a self-service luggage drop, but as we arrived early, it was still relatively quiet, and the process was overseen by a helpful member of staff.
Boarding was straightforward and by group number, and we took off only 15 minutes late, which is pretty standard now.
The complimentary food offered was a bottle of Harrogate water and a rather disappointing packet of shortie biscuits. However, as we’d indulged in breakfast at The Curator in the terminal, we declined the High Life Café offerings.
Towards the end of the flight, there was bad turbulence, the crew had to return to their seats and the girl sat beside me gripped the arm rests and began praying. We landed safely and were only 10 minutes late.
The return trip, a month later, was similar, albeit with a long, slow-moving queue to check in. So, by the time we used up the last of our cash in duty free, the gate was announced. A few minutes later, we began boarding, and although we were not due to take off until 8.25am, everyone had boarded by 8.05am. Even the pilot seemed amazed, although he explained we were still unable to take off until the due time.
The service was good, and this time the complimentary cereal bar was tasty.
Unfortunately, as there had been thunderstorms overnight, traffic at Heathrow was disrupted and although we could have landed early, the pilot said he had been told to ‘slow down.’ On landing we then had to wait until a plane left the stand, and although the seat belt signs were still fastened, an elderly gentleman next to my partner wanted to go to the loo. He pressed the call button and was told in no uncertain terms, he could but only if he was desperate. It was then another 10 minutes and as once again, we were in the middle of the aeroplane we had to wait until everyone in front had disembarked. I suspect the gentleman was then absolutely desperate.
