I just love staying in New York and always try to find a central hotel which is in easy reach of all the main sights and attractions. One of my favourites is the Mid Town Hilton which can be found on 5th Avenue just a short walk from Central Park and some of the major department stores such as Macys and Sacs.
There are plenty of subway stations nearby which will take you to Jamaica station where you can catch the air train to JFK. I recently found this a lot quicker than taking a taxi into Manhattan. The hotel is also just a short walk from the Hudson River which his often somewhat forgotten by visitors. Along the river you will find a variety of attractions include the amazing aircraft carrier the USS Intrepid. It is also just ten minutes’ walk from Times Square.
The Mid-Town Hilton is a very large hotel which includes an executive lounge for light breakfasts and a variety of light snacks and early evening non-alcoholic drinks. There is a shop which sells a variety of clothes and essentials such as stamps. If like me, you enjoy sending postcards there is also a USA Post Office just a short distance away.
The concierge service is very well informed and can help with directions, bookings and transport arrangements. They were also extremely adept at hailing taxis when I stayed there recently.
Room service is also quick and efficient as is maintenance.
The breakfast area is most impressive with a selection of dishes, pastries and other delights including some very tasty omelettes which could easily set you up for the day. If you are looking for somewhere to get yourself something to eat later in the day, then I have to suggest the Astro Restaurant which is nearby and on your way to Central Park. Here they can provide you with a comprehensive straightforward menu which will certainly fill you up. It has the feel of a real old-fashioned diner and is a great alternative to the many fast-food restaurants nearby. You will also find a drug store close by for any further supplies and for retail therapy you should try Hunters Yards, a new development by the river.
I have stayed at the New York Hilton Mid-town several times and found it ideal because of its central location, excellent breakfasts and well-informed staff.
