Holme Lacy House Hotel by Warner Leisure Hotels

Home is where the heart is, for resting, relaxing, having fun, and being entertained. Well that is just what you get at the beautiful Holme Lacy House Hotel. One of Warner Leisure Hotels’ flagship properties, it certainly feels like home! From the moment you walk through the door there is a ‘Welcome on the Mat’.

Holme Lacy House HotelThe mansion and the grounds fill you with delight. The approach road is a beautiful tree-lined avenue that leads you to the main reception area, the ‘welcome’ starts there. Staff are waiting to direct you to the car park and give you a map of the hotel facilities and your room card – very organised.

There is lots of disabled parking so if you need the extra assistance contact the hotel when you book your break. If you require a wheelchair then they can be hired from the reception for £5 or if they do not have enough you can ask them to contact a hire company for you.

Everything is accessible, and all activity rooms and areas are on the flat. However, some rooms are on the first and second floor, but the lifts are available to the beautiful, up-to-date rooms.

For the history buffs, Holme Lacy appears in the Doomsday Book, it has a history involving the families of de Lacy, Scudamore and the Earls of Chesterfield. Leaflets can be taken from the reception explaining the full history of the building but just walk around to experience a sense of what it was like all those years ago with it oak staircase and wood panelling all help you ‘time travel’ back to the past.

Holme Lacy House Hotel main dining roomWarner Leisure Hotels pride themselves on excellent food with lots of choices and Holme Lacy does not disappoint. Two restaurants cater for the 300 guests, both restaurants have à la carte or a buffet style service and food is very good, with so much variety, it does not matter what your preferences are, the staff will endeavour to please you. Why not visit the lounge for afternoon tea – it is a lovely treat in lovely surroundings.

Don’t worry if you forget anything as Warner provides a comprehensive range of goods to buy. There is a small shop that sells everything from toothpaste to beautiful clothes.

The magnificent grounds are another draw to the wonderful world of Warner Leisure Hotels. The patio area at the back of the hotel is set out with table, chairs and umbrellas for a leisurely early morning cup of tea or an afternoon apéritif. From the patio area you get the stunning view of the putting green which stretches down to the fishing lake, there is a pathway by the lake with garden benches for you to sit and watch the swans pass by.

Glynis, Julie and aperitifsGarden benches are set out all around the beautiful grounds. The topiary garden leads to the beach. Yes, the beach area – it is a lovely ‘sand-pit’ where the staff often hold beach barbecue on summer lunch times and you can sit on the deck chairs – weather permitting.

Entertainment is the name of the game at Warner Leisure Hotels. The entertainment team work tirelessly to give you as much or as little entertainment as you wish. From the ‘Walk a Mile’, an early morning walk around the grounds to late night disco you need never be bored. There is archery, tennis, the putting green, and fishing (you can take your own or you may borrow equipment but bring your own bait).

Glyn’s tip: Before you go to Holme Lacy remember to book your table for the evening entertainment, many people do, and it is a good idea if you don’t want to sit at the back of the room.

The Leisure Club is the place to be when you come to this beautiful hotel to relax. The swimming pool is a pleasure and the beauty treatment and Spa area help you unwind and thoroughly enjoy your stay.

Holme Lacy House is in a beautiful part of the country and Hereford is the nearest city with its lovely marketplace and a wide variety of shops.Self-guided walks by Warner Leisure Hotels Our visit coincided with the Hay on Wye book festival which we couldn’t resist a look to see if there was anyone famous promoting their books. Well, we weren’t disappointed because Chelsea Clinton (Hillary’s daughter) was being interviewed by Alex Jones (the One Show) so it was quite a treat. The festival is free to enter but you do have to pay to park your car approximately £5 per car. It is an interesting experience and only a short journey from Holme Lacy House.

If you wish to leave your car parked up for the weekend, the hotel does arrange trips out for the guests to Hereford and surrounding areas. Just ask at reception for details when you arrive.

If you are looking for a stress-free break that gives you the feeling of ‘home’ then look no further than the beautiful Holme Lacy House Hotel by Warner Leisure Hotels.
