This month’s Wine Club, in partnership with AmaWaterways, heads to the Bordeaux region of France.
Read on to find out more.
In the corner of southwestern France, the Garonne and Dordogne rivers merge to form the Gironde Estuary that naturally divides the famous Bordeaux region into Left and Right banks.
While Bordeaux is acclaimed for its legendary red blends, the small percentage of white blends from this region also make a big impression.
Bordeaux is the largest controlled wine region in France, made up of several subregions, each with its own strictly governed appellation, unique climate and terroir that define it. When you look at the wine labels here, something seems to be missing – the type of grape. In Bordeaux, the grape variety is simply not as significant a quality market as where the grapes are grown. So, rather than being named “Cabernet Sauvignon” or “Merlot”, you will find that these wines are named after the château and appellation they come from.

Bordeaux
Versailles it is so romantic.
Cadillac it sounds so special.
I would like to sample Bordeaux wines in Bordeaux itself. I have passed through the town itself whilst travelling by train down to Spain several times but never had the chance to disembark and enjoy a glass or two. This would be my opportunity.
On the walls at Carcassonne at sunset.

Les Landes with its long sandy beaches and pine forests…
Strasbourg for nearby where they have the most beautiful scenery. 🥂
It has to be Saint-Emilion! It is not only a medieval village, a world heritage site, but in the heart of the Bordeaux wine area. You can sample a glass at a vineyard or enjoy a glass with a nice meal at one of the restaurants in the city area.
Somewhere along the Brittany coastline. So near but so different.
In Paris on our anniversary in December.
Well, it would have to be in Bordeaux at the Musée du Vin et du Négoce where I could quaff and learn at the same time.

I would love to pick up the wine as we drive through Bordeaux and head down to the Dourdogne to visit the Cavern Gouffre De Padirac and sit beside the river and enjoy the sumptuous taste of Bordeaux wine and make a memory with my hubby.
I would go to the beautiful village of Coaraze on the Côte d’Azur. Its known for attracting artists so I would take my paints and enjoy the view with a glass of white Bordeaux.
Château du Taillan, a sustainable vineyard, on the outskirs of Bordeaux, run by women, looks like a beautiful place to experience the magic of wine tasting, in the 18th century underground cellars, then surrounded by an elegant park with century trees.
I would like to have a glass of Bordeaux after climbing to the top of the steps at the Sacre Coeur. I would definately need it.
