York is my favourite city in the UK. Founded by the Romans in 71AD and named EBORACUM it became the capital of the North of Britannia. The Romans withdrew in the 400's and left a wealth of history which has been unearthed over the centuries. The Yorkshire Museum located near Lendal Bridge and close to York Minster and the railway station is the perfect place to begin an exploration of Roman York. It's a wonderful museum which brings Roman history back to life. Follow the lives of the people who lived in Roman York.Immerse yourself in the Roman culture-march with the legions, see a genuine mosaic floor, see the statue of the war god MARS . Winner of York's visitor attraction of the year 2011 this recently rejuvenated museum is superb. Watch the audio-visual to explore York past and present.Learn about the Civil War.See the Medieval exhibitions of Viking and Saxon heritage.Marvel at the dinosaur exhibits-wonderful for the kids to see. As they say in the promotional literature-one visit is never enough!
Pay £7.50 and revisit as many times as you wish over the next 12 months A REAL BARGAIN.
