My sister and I arranged to meet our cousin John at Victoria Station for a few hours. He was over from Australia and passing through London en route to his brother.
We sat and chatted over a coffee for ages and then I mentioned that I'd read there is a lift up to the top of Westminster Cathedral's bell tower, which is almost next to Victoria.
We went along and, at the OAP price of £2.50 each, were taken up in the lift to the top of the tower where we were told to take as long as we liked looking round, and ring the bell when we wanted to come down again.
Luckily for us, it was a clear day and we could see miles in all directions. It was excellent – yet no-one I've spoken to since knew that such a thing was possible. Afterwards we spent an hour looking round the impressive Cathedral, before going downstairs and enjoying a snack in the cafe.
Well worth the visit!
