The West Gate Manor bed and breakfast is located near downtown Winnipeg and The Forks of the Assiniboine and Red Rivers – one of the major tourist attractions in Winnipeg. I stayed at this B&B a few weeks ago with an aunt and uncle from England and enjoyed a comfortable stay. The host and hostess, John and Louise Clark were not the most welcoming we encountered on our cross country trip, but the house is a lovely historic building in a quiet neighbourhood and the rooms were lovely. The bathroom in particular has a nice big bath and a huge separate shower that was a delight to use along with the complementary toiletries.
When we arrived Louise showed us to our rooms and gave me a map to use to get to The Forks, our destination for the afternoon/evening. What was missing was tea/coffee making facilities in our rooms or the offer of a drink on arrival or when we returned to the house in the evening. Breakfast the next morning (scrambled eggs and bacon, croissants, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee) was served in the sunny dining room, which like the lounge is full of antiques. It was a nice start to the day though we had the feeling they had somewhere to go and were quick to see us out.
