If you have the chance to visit Verona then make sure you go in Opera season – even if you have never seen and don't think you enjoy Opera it is an experience not to be missed. It was my first Opera I had seen so I was a complete novice, but what a night of absolute delight. Get there early and find a good seat on the stone steps – theres no need to pay for expensive seats as the view an atmosphere is much better from the steps. Hire some cushions though as its a long time on hard seats! Take a picnic and go around 5pm – choose a good spot on one of the sides, and enjoy watching everyone arrive. When the sun starts to go down the performance begins and wow what a show. Be prepared to come out very late as the performances can be quite long, and if you are driving there is a long queue to exit the car park. I would definately go again and am glad that my first experience of Opera was so uplifting and magnificent.
