We flew on Uzbekistan’s national carrier, Uzbekistan Airways, from its capital, Tashkent, to Urgench in the west of the country near the border with Turkmenistan.
Although there were two daily flights at 7am and 1pm, we took the early flight, which unfortunately meant a 4.30am alarm call.
We were amongst the first to check in, and were soon waiting in the single room with various gates leading off. However, it gradually got busier and busier, particularly with tour groups, all carrying their packed hotel breakfasts which we’d declined.
Eventually the flight to Urgench was called and we took a bus to the aircraft. The configuration was 3 x 3 with our seats being around half way down the plane. Whilst I’m normally happy to stow hand luggage under the seat in front, the leg room was so tight, I resorted to the overhead locker.
Whilst boarding was in progress, there was the ‘is there a doctor on board?’ announcement, and having found one, the blood pressure of a passenger a few rows behind us was taken. It was obviously not good news, as he promptly left the plane.
We set off on time, and during the 90-minute flight, the efficient staff served a meat roll, which tasted better than it looked, and water or a hot drink.
We landed on time, disembarking via the rear stairs where it was just a short walk into the arrival halls.
This was a reasonable experience, but before booking a longer flight, I’d want to check out the seat pitch.
