We had been looking for a base to explore the tip of Cornwall and to visit St Ives, so the location of this hotel was ideal. We took advantage of a Wowcher offer, otherwise the price of rooms would normally have been out of our range.
We were glad not to have had to drive into St Ives itself, as the place, although an idyllic spot, is a nightmare with a car. You can walk into the town from the hotel, but only if you’re feeling really athletic and have saved some energy for the uphill return!
We decided to pay the supplement for a four-poster sea-view room, and were rewarded with an excellent panorama over St Ives. The room however was a little ‘tired’ as the decor was showing signs of wear, and the furniture also. We had to report to reception that the legs of the armchairs were not only loose but had fallen off when we sat on them! A further disappointment was the the indoor pool was closed while we were there, and being April, it was too cold to swim outdoors.
We had dinner in the brasserie and enjoyed our meal although we felt the price of food and drink was too high. Breakfast was included in our deal and was ok without being out-of-the ordinary. We have stayed in hotels of this standard before and had far better choice and quality.
Overall we liked the hotel and St Ives, and might return in the future but certainly not without one of the many special deals that seem to be available.
