Relaxation

The Tivoli Lisboa hotel is centrally situated in Lisbon, on the Avenida da Liberdade. Located about 7 km from the airport, buses from the airport stop outside the hotel. We had a suite in the hotel, overlooking the tree-lined Avenida da Liberdade. The road is busy till very late at night but the windows and blinds block out the street noise. The hotel is smart but friendly and the service is impeccable. There is a pretty garden with a swimming pool where it's hard to believe you are in a city centre. The roof terrace bar is fabulous for relaxing in the evening with fantastic views across to the castle. We had breakfast in the hotel which was excellent with an extensive choice. One night we ate in the rooftop restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious traditional Portuguese meal accompanied by Fado, local folk music. We found Lisbon to be a really good choice for an autumn break. Lisbon has an old fashioned charm, with many interesting places to visit, such as the castle, but just wandering the streets is entertaining in itself. The city is built on seven hills, which makes riding on one of the old, yellow trams perfectly excusable.
