i’ve been hunting for the perfect afternoon tea for some years now, but find that even the best places seem to fall just slightly short of the mark. there are those that offer “style over substance”, while others offer cakes that would have been truly delicious yesterday. but at the vintage empire in herne bay all my tearoom dreams came true.

with so much choice, my decision was a tough one. the victoria sponge looked good ~ but would it meet my expectations? it did ~ with bells on. and the pot of (loose leaf) tea was spot on, too. if i lived nearby i’d be back to try other delights ~ probably a brunch next time. roll on another visit to herne bay!

note: the place is quite small, so best to book a table.
