We visited this pub a short distance from our home on the recommendation of a neighbour and it lived up to its reputation.
It’s a beautiful thatched building in Bransgore which is just on the edge of The New Forest near Christchurch.
The service was friendly and attentive and at midday on a weekday the pub was moderately busy with diners. Tables were well spaced and the atmosphere was airy.
We wanted a Christmas lunch so we opted for their fixed price festive menu (£22.95 for 2 courses, £29.95 for 3 courses). My starter of artichoke soup with lobster was fantastically smooth and really delicious, my husband was jealous having chosen the mushroom pate. There was also a terrine and a smoked salmon quiche on the starter menu. The full Christmas dinner arrived on an oval plate with white and brown turkey meat which was very moist, homemade cranberry sauce, a very creamy bread sauce, great roast potatoes, a full range of well cooked vegetables and some home made potato crisps too. Other main courses included duck, lemon sole, a vegetable dauphinois and pork.
There was so much to eat that we couldn’t manage a pudding from the choices of Christmas pudding, amaretto trifle, chocolate brûlée and cheese and biscuits, so will have to go back in the new year to sample desserts.
As we got the bill we were given a voucher for 25% off food in January which is another good reason for returning.
