Last night we enjoyed a fabulous feast of 60's music at The Hexagon, Reading.
Hosted by Alan Mosca from Freddie & The Dreamers, our memories were jolted into action by hit songs from Steve Ellis' Love Affair, which included a very talented group of musicians. Eternal Love is a song that will stay eternal!
We were then transported back to our teenage years with the original Swinging Blue Jeans, all wearing blue jeans! Doing the Hippy, Hippy, Shake, Shake was a bit risky for all of us.
The headline act was the legendary Chris Farlowe, who received a standing ovation at the end of his set. Handbags & Gladrags sounded almost as good as the original and to hear Out of Time live was just magical.
The last act of the evening was The Marmalade – not just for breakfast… but for 30 minutes of superb musicianship! The lead singer's son has joined him in the group and they performed a really good mix of their hits plus hits by others. Their rendition of the Beatles track, Norwegian Wood was excellent.
After the finale, with all 3 groups and Chris Farlowe performing together, (too much for my blood pressure…) they all were in the theatre foyer to sign their CD's & pose for photographs etc..
Then it was, sadly, out into the cold night air of 2014.
