We booked to stay at the Red Lion over the internet and had read some good reviews. When we arrived we were quickly reassured that the reviews had been right – the staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room, which was in a mews block adjacent to the main building, was reached by an external staircase, and so wouldn't have been accessible to a wheelchair user; for us it was fine – it was spacious, well decorated and had everything we needed, up to an iron and ironing board. We found a selection of teas, including camomile and fruit teas, three different kinds of coffee and a cafetiere. Toiletries were supplied, as well as the fluffiest towels we've encountered for a long time!
We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was superb and very reasonably priced, considering how good it was, and all locally-sourced. Breakfast the following morning (we opted for the Full English) was excellent and we were really sorry that we had to pack up and leave, we wished we'd been able to stay for another night or three. We'll certainly go back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
