In our small camper van the first visit was a small folk festival (Peace orientated) where a lot of our friends were performing – 6 brothers, The Wilsons, recently performed with Sting, plus others and my partner got to sing some lovely songs too.
From there we travelled to North Wales where everyone said it would rain on us as we were booked to go on the ZipWire! Well, it rained on the way but stopped for us to “fly” over the slate mines at 100 mph! A great, very unusual experience for an oldie!
We camped on a farm which had wonderful showers! Very necessary. The sun even came out – well, I am Welsh so weather is kind to me when I go there.
Returning to Staffordshire we were to go on a bike ride on an old railway line (the Manifold TRail) which was great until my partner went back for something and left me to carry on alone. Dodgy, as I always get lost, which I did! He eventually found me after having cycled twice the route, but bless him, he was not at all cross just worried that I had crashed (I have just recovered from a fractured wrist from going over the handlebars), so I was lucky. He even booked a B&B for that night as a treat at the Manifold Inn which was really lovely with good food too.
Next stop was a visit to his family in Uttoxeter, then an Hotel in Rugeley – my treat for our Anniversary. Not as good as expected as we were given the smallest room in the empty hotel, Colton House, I had paid for a luxury room and bathroom was impossibly tiny. Not impressed.
We moved on to Gnosal, Staffordshire, where a pal was having a 65th celebration organised to include loads of his Victory Morrismen friends. Obviously a good time was had by all with visits to lots of different places.
A great 10 days.
