You always know Christmas is imminent when The Nutcracker comes to town. Performed this year at The Kings, Portsmouth, by The Russian State Ballet and Opera House, quite rightly renowned for their ballet and opera, winning awards in the field of opera and ballet.
Performed to a live audience this is a enduring Christmas favourite The Nutcracker is an enduring Christmas favourite written by E.T.A. Hoffman and has also become one of Tchaikovsky's most famous compositions, certainly one of the most popular ballets in the world. The Russian Ballet brings passion and vibrancy to it; complete professionalism combined with beautiful costumes and precise perfection of movement to combat the rather restricted size of the stage. We loved the rather cheeky mice! The choreography alone was fantastic and deservedly approved by the audience.
Kings Theatre, Portsmouth, is an elegant Edwardian building seating 1600 people. It has a computerised booking system, as is the computerised lighting and boasts centrally heated dressing rooms. However, due to the age and build of the building, although updated as much as possible and to consider its heritage there is no lift incorporated which could be a consideration when booking certain seats as the stairs are rather steep.
Only shown here for one night it was such shame the theatre was not fully booked. We absolutely loved the performance by this Company and would thoroughly recommend everyone to go and see it if possible. GLORIOUS!
Unfortunately due to the theatre's restrictions photography was not allowed so no images have been able to be reproduced – such a shame.
