We decided to visit Waddedson Manor as it was somewhere we had always wanted to see especially as it is meant to be the “Jewel in the Crown “ for the National Trust.

As the journey would take us around 2 hours we decided it may be better to stay overnight nearby so that we could return the following day to complete our visit if we ran out of time.

On this occasion Premier Inns & Travelodges in the area were quite expensive even though it was a weekday so I looked for a B&B nearby. The one that I decided upon was fully booked but the owner recommended “ The Leys” in Whitchurch and passed on the details. As the sun was shining we decided to go to Waddesdon first to walk around the beautiful gardens . So it was late afternoon before we arrived at “The Leys” where we were greeted by the owner, Diane & her friendly dog whose name escapes me! We were offered tea which was accompanied by some homemade biscuits which was a nice touch. Diane instantly made us feel at home so we stayed chatting on the terrace of the lovely garden for quite awhile before getting ready to have a meal at the The White Swan pub a short stroll away. As it was such a warm evening we sat outside and enjoyed a treat of fish and chips, which were really tasty along with a bottle of rose wine. The following morning, after juice & cereal, we were served a lovely cooked breakfast by Diane which contained really creamy tasting scrambled eggs which were superb! Both tea & coffee were served in pots along with proper china cups – another nice touch! The breakfast room had a nice homely feel and the table had been set so that we could overlook the beautiful garden.

Our room was very spacious with a great ensuite shower room – the walk in shower was fantastic and various toiletries were supplied. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the whole place had a lot of character. There were a few narrow stairs to access the bedrooms so sadly don’t think this excellent B&B would be suitable for disabled guests. Ample parking was at the side of the house.

As we were a last minute booking Diane gave us a discounted rate of £50 for B&B in the double room. She was very professional whilst being friendly and welcoming and we would not hesitate to recommend “The Leys” or stay there again.

Dianne can be contacted on 01296 641055 or email dianne.m@btinternet.com as online bookings are not available as yet.
