One of the best properties we’ve stayed in the Caribbean for the price we paid. Overall, a great place with a few blips, on arrival we were taken via buggy to our room, but the gentleman who took us didn’t show us round or tell us anything about the resort, so we felt as if we needed to figure it out for ourselves.
The room itself along with furnishings and appliances is the best we’ve experienced in the Caribbean; it really was superb. And never underestimate the value of a washer and dryer in the accommodation – no need to wash when we were back home! Treat yourself to a room with a hot tub on the balcony if you can!
Once unpacked we were tired so just ordered pizzas to the room, we waited over an hour and called and said we’d come over to collect to make it easier, we headed to the restaurant to collect – it was so busy, not enough staff and we spoke to 2 different people who said our food was coming but we waited another 20 mins and then gave up. About 30 mins later we got a call to the room to say our food was ready to collect (some 2 hours after we had ordered the pizzas). Worth noting that our first week was October half term so busy with families but very quiet the following week.
The lunches at Callaloo were excellent, service was for the most part good but on a couple of days there was a long wait for food (not unusual for Caribbean), fine for us as we had secured a table early, but I did hear a few grumbles throughout the week about wait times in general.
We used concierge a couple of times to order taxis and all worked well, again I had heard some people question their effectiveness about booking trips with concierge but they were fine for our use.
The spa seemed very quiet and had lots of capacity – overall I thought the prices were good value.
There was more than enough room on the beach and the beach team were delightful and helpful, chatty, etc. Our daughter had a one hour hobie cat sailing lesson and then took us out each day for the rest of our holiday. All non-motorised watersports are included, great to keep family entertained.
The atmosphere in Callaloo beach bar/restauant was excellent each day, and we said we’d preferred to stay there for sundowners. The other restaurant/bar on the beach was surprisingly soleless and empty most days/sundowners.
Little cafe within the reception was perfect for early morning coffee and croissant, and every member of staff in there was delightful.
Also, a recommendation – the Friday night street party in nearby Gros Islet is fabulous – we loved it! Other recommendations restaurants close by The Naked Fisherman and The Cliff at Cap – both a short $15 taxi ride away.
