We stayed at this hotel as we had tickets for a concert at the Queens Theatre in Barnstaple and needed overnight accommodation – and we were pleasantly surprised!
It’s a rather ‘olde worlde’ hotel that has retained some of the features you may not normally expect today – for example, a doorman/concierge who went out of his way to speak with us and to ensure we had everything we needed, including a hotel umbrella to use while walking around the town in the rain! We had an excellent light lunch in the bar, with equally excellent service, spent a comfortable night in our upgraded room, and enjoyed a full breakfast the next morning.
The hotel is situated on the banks of the River Taw, just outside the town centre, but still within easy walking distance. We were happy we hadn’t chosen a cheaper hotel in the centre, as on leaving the concert, we noticed how noisy the main street is at night. Our location was much preferable!
