Reasons for trip

Whilst staying in Blockley on the Cotswolds, we noticed that The Great Western Pub had many really good reviews, so decided to give it a try. On entering the pub, the bar to the immediate right catered for the younger people of the village with a large screen tv, but the room to the left, more for serious "foodies". It had a really lovely feel to the restaurant, with a wood burner with a roaring fire at one end which also had comfy settees to sink into whilst deciding on your menu choice. The menu choice was usual pub grub on one hand, but on the specials board were lovely choices. When we were there there was chicken in a mushroom sauce, belly pork, fresh fish, and fishermans pie. The landlord noticed us deliberating and told us he'd just had the fishermans pie, and it was lovely. We both love sea food so decided to follow his lead. When it arrived, it was bubbling hot with cheesey mash on top. The pie was full of different fish including smoked haddock, salmon, cod and prawns. The sauce was delicious and we both decided it was the best we'd tasted! The pie was accompanied by three fresh vegetables. Someone else on the next table had ordered steak, which again she said was excellent and this had onion rings made with a vodka batter! The restaurant was quiet, homely and welcoming, good value for money, great service and we'd certainly return when visiting the Cotswolds again.
