Our first trip to New York and a dream come true for my special birthday. The hotel is in a great location, close enough to visit lots of attractions but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square. Check in was straightforward and easy, which is perfect after a long, tiring day of travelling. The lobby and bar were painted black which made it very dark even in the middle of a sunny day. The air con, although a welcome relief from the heat outside, made it too cold to sit at the tables for any length of time. The rooms were quirky and nicely dressed and the temperature in the room was very easy to regulate. The bed was comfortable and the room had everything we needed, including USB chargers. We stayed on the third floor and the windows were poor for eliminating any noise so it was very, very difficult to sleep. We heard every subway train, every beeping horn and every word shouted from the street below. It really is the city that never sleeps! The biggest problem we encountered was with the food service. Nobody seemed to know what time breakfast was supposed to start. There was just one member of staff behind the counter trying to take everyone’s order, make drinks and bring food out. The choice was rather limited. On one evening, we decided to eat at the hotel for our main meal after a tiring day. Food was listed as being served from midday to 10.00pm. We went to the bar to order at 9.00pm only to be told that they had packed away for the night and decided to finish serving food early. This left us with a real dilemma and we ended up not eating. Overall, the hotel was okay for a short stay and for somewhere to sleep (or not as the case may be!) but not for anyone wanting to take advantage of any other hotel facilities.
