Reasons for trip

The Fox has one of those chocolate box locations on the edge of a classic honey coloured stone Cotswold villages with the River Windrush running alongside its terraced gardens. Indeed if some Hollywood film producer was looking for a location for a film featuring an English pub then this would be it.

I visited on a lovely warm summers lunchtime and together with three friends we grabbed a table next to the river where we could see trout holding station against the fast moving current.

Landlord Paul Porter has been at The Fox for over twenty years and spent some time telling me some great tales of his time there, he gave me a tour of not just the pub with its many nooks and crannies but also of his newly refurbished rooms.

There are three rooms in the pub itself and a further four in the mews alongside the river, all are very comfortable and well furnished, some with exposed stone walls and beamed oak ceilings.

The Fox offers a varied menu catering to all choices but is very proud of its traditional Great British Pub Dishes, but be warned the portions are a bit on the large side.

The Fox takes a bit of finding, even with my local knowledge i took a couple of wrong turns, but it is well worth the effort whether it be for lazy lunch or a longer stay in the excellent accommodation .
