Forget any prejudices or reservations about Michelin star restaurants, The Elephant is friendly and accessible but with a level of cooking that is second to none. Having said that, the whole experience of the tasting menu is akin to being in the finals of Masterchef the Professionals as a guest judge but in a good way. No pretentions or instructions to share the chef’s vision, just wonderful food, served beautifully, explained and with delicious wine pairings.
We were graced by a waiter, that despite looking like a Viking warrior, was Polish with impeccable English; a very tall elegant young lady who moved about the tables like a catwalk model; a manager? who seemed to be every where at once and the patron? who glided serenely around making everyone feel like a VIP.
The food was exciting, modern, sometimes challenging our palates with new flavours and textures but always delicious. The wine was generous, high quality and a quiet lesson in food/wine pairing. It was so good we rebooked for two days later to go A La Carte.
This was an experience we would have no hesitation in recommending. Do not go expecting pub grub prices nor huge prices, do go expecting fantastic food at great value for money. Fine dining and value do go hand in hand at The Elephant, GO!
