We recently celebrated our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and my daughter (and son-in law and son) arranged a surprise overnight stay at The Cranleigh.
I follow The Cranleigh on Facebook as they regularly give prizes of a stay there whenever the number of likes goes up by 1000. I loved the look of the place but thought the only way I would get to stay there would be by winning a stay, as it is such an extravagance. All of their rooms are luxurious but they have a couple of really special rooms/suites too.
From the outside it looks much like the usual lakeland large guest houses but once inside our room it was like being in a 5 star hotel. We had rose petals scattered on the bed in the shape of a heart. A box of hand made chocolates, and strawberries dipped in chocolate on the bedside table. There was also a complimentary glass of prosecco each for us to take whenever we liked.
Every details was thought about and there was nothing we needed to ask for. 10 minutes after we arrived, reception phoned to check if we were happy with our room. We had tea and coffee making facilities, along with complimentary bottled water. A large wall mounted TV, a fancy radio/sound system which we didn't use. There was even an umbrella for us to use during our stay. The bed was large and very comfortable.
The bathroom was amazing, a huge air bath with lights inside and outside the bath, the lights in the bath changed colour when the air jets were bubbling. There was also a rain shower at one end of the bath, and in the wall at the other end of the bath was a TV. The bathroom was also equipped with luxurious towels and bath robes and high quality toiletries. There was a heated towel rail and underfloor heating.
The breakfast the following morning was served in the dining room which is very tastefully decorated. There is lots of choice on the menu but we opted for the full english breakfast which was delicious and beautifully presented.
The Cranleigh is perfectly placed in Bowness. We were able to park our car at the hotel, which is a bonus as parking is at a premium in that area. It was a few minutes walk to the lake and the boats for trips on Lake Windermere.
As guests of the Cranleigh you also have the use of the spa and swimming pool at the Old England Hotel which overlooks the lake and is a few minutes walk.
We had a wonderful stay and I would love to go back there in the future.
I would definitely recommend the Cranleigh to anyone wanting to stay in the Lake District in luxury.
If anybody would like to check it out for themselves have a look on their website www.thecranleigh.com.
