This is a delightful place for coffee, lunch or tea: interconnecting rooms in an ancient building, offering sofas as well as dining chairs – and an outdoor seating area. It is a great place for a civilised, delicious and fairly cheap light lunch. My personal favourite is the duck pâté with plums, salad and bread (£7.95) followed by one of their amazing home-made cakes. Water is put out for guests, which keeps the cost down, but the coffee is good. They cater well for people requiring gluten-free food. See their website for directions to the car-park round the back, which will save you from having to climb a lot of steps from the shop downstairs. Breast-feeding mums and oldies are equally at home here. There is free wifi.
