The Strada restaurant is on Cardiff Bay on ground floor below balcony with lots more restaurants upstairs. It was a busy Sunday early afternoon, including customers who had been part of the earlier half-marathon (not me, I might add as I was there for the gin!). The staff were friendly, helpful and very accommodating. For example, at nearby table they exchanged a dish of chicken and salad for one without the dressing with no quibble. But, old bloke opposite made the waitress take two glasses of red wine back to top one up as his wife had a mm more than him! A smug, smarmy bloke giving us oldies a bad name.
They had set menu 12-7pm two courses £9.95 or three courses £11.95. For starter I had roasted avocado and mozzarella sprinkled with roasted pine-nuts and oil – I asked them to leave out the chilli. This is the first time I have had avocado cut open into 4 sections and roasted – a really tasty way to enhance the flavour so very nice.
There are several options for the main course including a fish selection (but I don’t like whitebait) and pizza with spicy sausage, but I went for the steak for extra £3. Cooked medium rare, it was a lovely tender piece of steak, sliced, with a little bucket of skinny fries. Very nice – I would have preferred the steak to be a bit warmer, but overall it was a great meal. I only intended to go for 2 courses but was tempted by the baked cheesecake. Another £2 and 2lb! If you book by 18th October, their special Christmas menu of 2 courses including a glass of Prosecco is £16.95.
On ground floor so accessible for wheelchairs.
