In October 2022 Papplewick Pumping Station in Nottinghamshire was host again to the 1940’s Weekend Event. There were re-enactors, vintage vehicles and displays. Entertainment was provided by Jayne Darling, Kevin Mack, Johnny Victory and Lula May.
Papplewick Pumping Station is a beautifully preserved Victoria Waterworks. It is a registered charity and looked after by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. They hold regular steaming events throughout the year. The price for Senior entry is £9.75 which includes an annual pass valid for 12 months from the day of purchase. They also conduct Underground Reservoir Tours (which I didn’t go on as it involved flights of stairs)
Because of the onging war in Ukraine the day’s events concentrated on the Home Front re-enactments such as firefighting displays rather than guns and military paraphernalia. We met up with the re-enactors and photographers so it was a good day out.
Papplewick is worth a visit at any time, because the interior of the Pumping Station has such architectural splendour that it is even hired out as a wedding venue.
