Reasons for trip

We went to St Martin with a little trepidation as it only has a population of c130 souls and therefore the facilities to match!

Happily the weather in April was superb…sunshine virtually every day and so our grandchildren could be on the exquisite beaches almost every day. The beaches at this and probably most times of the year on this Island are almost deserted. In fact when other families or individuals were seen we almost resented their presence!

We flew from Lands End airport…now with a tarmac runway and a virtually new terminal ..to St Marys which is a lovely very short 20 minute flight. If you are lucky you may be given a route over the 5 larger inhabited islands of the Scillies the blue lagoon is bounded by the white sands of the Islands…an unforgettable sight.

There is a hotel on St Martin but we stayed in 2 self catering cottages and facilities were good…look for the rosettes..as standards do vary as always.

There is one store which is well stocked and if they dont have something they can have it generally within 24 hours. Also one pub which serves excellent food.
Boats travel between St Mary’s and the other main islands (including Tresco) regularly so visits to these and to the rocks where puffins and seals abound are recommended.

Highly recommended but weather conditions may play an important part in the enjoyment of this holiday!
