My partner, Pete, asked where would like to go for my birthday and Jersey came to mind as we could go from Southampton Airport – bit of a drag going to Gatwick!
Through to airport in an hour and on the plane – oops one engine wasn’t working so we all had to get off for about half an hour, but it all seemed quite quick and we were in Jersey in 40 minutes. Pete had hired a car, mainly as I’m not too fit at the moment and he knew I couldn’t walk far, bless him.
Hotel – the Norfolk Hotel – was very nice and it was good to be able to open a window as weather very warm (some hotels that is impossible) also it had a bath which I love! Gym, Spa and indoor pool were available.
We had a walk and found a super restaurant, think it was called Aroma, for the evening meal and an Irish bar for a tot on the way home – bit of a laugh as there was a very bad Karaoke going!
Next day was my birthday and after breakfast – very good hotel breakfast – there was a bottle of champagne awaiting for me (arranged by Pete of course), a lovely surprise. Actually when Pete went to pay for it before we left, the hotel said it was compliments of the hotel, wasn’t that nice.
We visited the War Tunnels in the afternoon – gosh that was interesting and there was so much to see. So much happened in Jersey during the German occupation that we didn’t realise.
The Glass church was very beautiful for a short visit – all Lalique.
Next visit was to the Zoo! Lots of photos taken there. Bears were not about but there were lots of birds, reptiles and animals to see.
We had a lovely meal in an Italian restaurant for my birthday. It said “Great menu, grumpy manager”! Found another fun pub and enjoyed watching the Lions playing rugby against New Zealand from the Saturday! We knew the result but it was great to watch and anyway the Lions won that one.
Before going home next day we had time to visit the lovely St.Brelades Bay, lunch in the sunshine and paddle in the sea, bliss.
Homeward after a brilliant long weekend treat, met at Southampton by my son who drove us home and had brought me more birthday presents! I am a very lucky gal!
