Sliema is something of a car crash compared to its neighbour Valetta across the water; you can take a water taxi that runs frequently every ten minutes and is a delight. But Sliema for anyone who has visited the Island of Malta 40 odd years ago will know it has been completely spoilt beyond recognition and the Government now plan to do the same to Manoel Island. The point underground shopping centre was once a beautiful colonial barracks used by the British army, sadly they have just realised that they should have conserved more of the buildings. I lived in Malta and was educated there for five years and am very saddened by the dereliction of some of the properties in favour of high rise penthouses for foreign nationals with no interest in the culture or heritage of the islanders, visit and make your own opinions.
