What better way to see the Rockies than up close from the air!! This was a fantastic experience flying alongside the peaks and through valleys, crossing lakes and soaring passed glaciers.
The Alpine Helicopter base is in Canmore just 30 minutes from Banff. There are four different flight options ranging from 15 mins to 90 mins with a touchdown. We took the Assinboine Mountain flight lasting 35 mins.
You start with a safety briefing before boarding the six person helicopter. Throughout the flight the captain provided information and commentary about what we could see and the features of the Rockies. It was an incredible flight. At times you felt so close you could almost reach out and touch the mountains. It was a little cloudy on the day we flew so you couldn’t see the summit of Assinboine but it didn’t matter, there was so much else to see. It really made you realise just how vast and huge the Rockies really are.
The time passed so quickly that before we knew it we were descending back into Canmore. The team at Alpine Helicopters were great and made the whole experience special from start to finish.
