“Sunset Beach Inn Sanibel Island Florida”:https://www.theinnsofsanibel.com/sunset-beach/ Travelled back to our favourite part of Florida for my 70th Birthday in November 2019. This is all about location location location at a reasonable price.

We had a garden view room with a screened balcony. The room was large with two Queen beds and there was a a good sized bathroom with a great shower over the bath. The room was clean and towels and bedding changed regularly. It also had kitchen area with fridge freezer, cooker, microwave, coffee maker and toaster with crockery and cutlery and a large table. There was a safe in the room. The Wifi was very good. There is a laundry area with washing machines and driers which can be activated with contactless cards.

The room and resort were clean perhaps the rooms could do with redecoration and there were a couple of small rips in the carpet but on balance the room we had was way above what we expected. We just didn’t expect such a large room with a full kitchen for the price we paid a week before thanksgiving in Florida. Could be challenging for people with mobility issues there are no lifts there is a ramp to reception or 8 steps to the 1st floor and another 16 steps to the 2nd floor, there are a few rooms on the ground floor but they are down 6 steps.

There is a large swimming pool, shuffle boards, tennis court, kayaks and paddle boards and bikes free to use for guests. Sanibel is almost completely flat so it is is ideal for walking and cycling with good cycle tracks on all the main routes.

However the main recreation area is miles of white powder sand with a shallow slope into the warm sea even in November. Beach loungers are free but there are no beach umbrellas – plenty for sale at Baileys! Sunsets are fantastic. There have been some problems with Red Tide on the Gulf Coast of Florida we had one day when people with respiratory problems would be better staying off the beach.

A breakfast basket is provided every day with a selection of cereals, bagels, yoghurt milk and orange juice which was adequate for us. With the kitchen it would have been possible to self cater, there are two good supermarkets on Sanibel, Baileys is less than 10 minutes drive.

There are many good restaurants on Sanibel and the neighbouring island of Captiva.

The Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge and the Crow Animal Hospital is 5 minutes drive from the hotel. Captiva Island Marina with a daily schedule of guided tours to other islands is about 20 minutes drive.

The hotel is an easy 40 minute drive from Forth Myers International Airport (RSW).
