I would rate this hotel as 4.5 based on what we paid. I've stayed in better hotels but I've also paid for the privilege. Firstly everywhere was spotless and that gave a really good impression of the hotel management. I had booked a basic room but then enrolled with sandos4u before travelling and upgraded to a sea-view room for just €70 for the week (the room not each). There was even a bottle of cava in the room as a thank you for joining the Sandos program. The room we had was in C block with gorgeous views. I would really recommend this. The rooms are quite tricky to find – especially when you are a bit weary at the end of a long journey. The directions that reception gave only got us 1/2 way there and then it was a bit hit and miss with poor signage. This could be so easily remedied with clear wayfinding. During the holiday, we saw countless lost souls with luggage and ended up guiding a few people to where they needed to be. The room was very spacious as well as having a good size balcony. It is important to note that this is a very family orientated hotel. As it was post school holidays, there was a lot of families with toddlers and babies who hadn't yet learnt the art of volume control! Meal time was often not the most relaxing experience. Suggestion to hotel would be to designate an adult only area of the dining room (perhaps in the Italian part). I have to say that the food quality was very good for such a large hotel although didn't really see the benefit of the seperate but adjoining italian as the choice was very limited so most people flitted between the two restaurants. We enjoyed the mexican but the chinese was a bit bland which was a shame. Both specialty restaurants were very quiet and seemed to be underbooked. We never had a problem finding a sunbed whatever time of day so there was no need to get up at crack of dawn! The entertainment worked hard and there was a good balance of inviting people around the pool to partake of the various activities but not being too pushy. They also took time out just to chat which was nice. Evening entertainment was much as expected and not really our cup of tea but everyone tried hard. We preferred the chill out terrace but often just took a drink back to the room and sat on the balcony. It's worth making the effort to visit papagayo beach (I even snorkelled) but I did find it very hot walking back even though its not that far. Anyone with mobility difficulties would have struggled. One more suggestion to hotel would be to run a shuttle to the beach car park a couple of times a week so everyone can enjoy this stunning beach.
