We had a brief visit to Royal Leamington Spa between our day out to Warwick Castle and before returning to our hotel in Kenilworth. It is a 5-minute journey by train, at a very cheap price – so not worth taking the car.
I was surprised how attractive the centre of the town was. There were so many beautifully-preserved Regency buildings. The main high street, The Parade, had all the usual shops but behind the original facades. It was a bit of a novelty for me to go into a shop that was not a supermarket! I was able to browse and buy a couple of things. It would have been nice to visit the Art Gallery & Museum, but of course it was closed due to restrictions.
As it was beer-o’clock, we nipped into the Old Library pub in Bath Street opposite All Saints church. At the time of visiting the pub it had a reasonable selection of real ales, and you could use your CAMRA vouchers. There was a beer garden which added to the feeling of safety.
Our next stop was the Fizzy Moon Brewhouse & Grill on Regent Road. The establishment was voted the best bar in Warwickshire in 2018 & 2019, As the name suggests there is a brewery on site and in normal times there is always 4 crafted home brews on tap including one called Bonking Donkey!
Another advantage of picking this particular pub was the large outdoor area. We stayed for food and I had a burger with sweet potato fries and salad. Although the place was obviously popular we felt safe because of being outside. It was also good for people watching – a favourite pastime of ours.
I would recommend Royal Leamington Spa to visit as there is much to offer.
