We had to visit Barcham Trees to choose some new ones for the end of our garden. We decided to spend a couple of nights up the road in Ely to give us our first break since the lockdown. We booked the Riverside Inn, right on the River Ouse. It was in “full covid mode” so we were given a door code, collected an envelope with our keys and instructions and let ourselves into the room. It was very well equipped, clean and comfortable, albeit in a style that was both dark and heavily patterned. We faced the river and could see people walking along the bank but after it a quick check it was clear they couldn’t see us. Breakfast was served on a tray with cereal, pastries, fruit, rolls, fruit juices and more (in fact enough for our lunches as well). Peering through the porthole on the door there was a nice bar and eating area but no access. It is difficult to talk about staff because we didn’t see any, just spoke to them on the phone. However, given the circumstances, a good safe stay in a nice place in a great location.
