Ridge Walk is part of a longer walk along the scarp over looking the Trent Valley and is part of a popular walking and cycle trail.
During the coronavirus lockdown, I have been walking the “section”:https://walk4life.info/node/4944/print between Kingsway (A18) and West Common Lane.
It is a very easy walk along a well made path. Although virtually in the centre of Scunthorpe, it feels as if you are in the midst of the countryside and are accompanied by bird song.
The path is lined with hawthorn which was in full bloom in May and scenting the air. Near Kingsway is a large area of open meadow which is covered with cowslip flowers. In normal times, this is popular with families who come to picnic here. The verges are a botanists delight with buttercups, crosswort, Germander speedwell, cow parley, dandelions, red clover , red campion, wild strawberries…
The walk can be extended across the A18 into Brumby Wood, an attractive area of semi-natural woodland. There is a parking area off Kingsway, although this has been shut during the lockdown. The nearest post code is DN17 1AH and grid reference for the car park is SE881 104
