We visited on a very wet day and the parking area was just a sea of mud so entry and exit were very difficult as the car kept getting bogged down in the mud. The gardens are beautiful and the building is a work in progress. There were many nooks and crannies to explore and we would recommend that you take a picnic and spend the day if the weather allows. We cut short our visit in September 2014 because of the rain but have plans to go back in June 2015 as we felt we had not really managed to enjoy all the gardens had to offer. Anyone infirm would find getting from the car park to the Castle very difficult and there are quite a few steps in various areas.
