We fly regularly between Southern Africa and the UK. After supporting both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic for many years we grew tired of their offhand manner and treatment of customers, particularly Virgin Atlantic! We decided to look at alternatives particularly those that flew into London, Gatwick Airport which is much more convenient for us. We used Emirates for some time before trying Qatar Airways which enticed us with some exceptionally reasonable fares. We have been impressed with their efficiency, timekeeping and best of all their cabin staff who are unfailingly helpful and obliging. Their baggage allowance is a superb 45kgs on our routes and much appreciated. We do not use all of that but it is a relief not to have to try and stuff everything under the 20-23 kgs mark! Yes, you do have to transit at Doha airport but it is efficiently done with very small waiting times. It also gives one a chance to stretch your legs before the next flight. The money we have saved flying with this airline is not inconsiderable and can be put to better use than sitting on another airlines plane at a higher rate! You can pre-seat 48 hours before departure for free which is another bonus. In fact their computer always gives us seats in the areas we prefer well before that as a member of their Frequent Flyer Programme. In all they offer a very satisfactory service at very reasonable rates. I recommend them – and if you are fortunate enough to fly Business Class they offer another excellent product!
