There seems to be a trend these days for farms to convert themselves into visitor attractions – and this one is no different. Uniquely – it seems – it also has a hedgehog hospital, hence the name of the farm – it case it sounds like some kind of nasty complaint!
Being situated just outside Newton Abbot, it is handily placed for us to take our grandchildren for a day out, as indeed it also is if you are based in, or on holiday in, this part of the country. It is not as big as similar ones we have visited, which can be an advantage in terms of distance getting around. The highlight for us was the talk about hedgehogs, rescuing them, and in particular having the opportunity to see and stroke one – and no, they’re not too prickly to stop you doing that! There are similar ‘events’ every half hour with the ferrets, pigs, rabbits and other pets. Our 5 year-old granddaughter especially enjoyed the chance to groom a pony, although she thought it was a donkey!
She also enjoyed the other things there are for kids to do there, including trampolines and the playground, but is particularly adept at getting her granddad to part with his money in the cafe and the shop! We don’t mind at all, of course, especially in the cafe where the food we had was surprisingly good! The shop, however, is rather small but at least you can buy a cuddly hedgehog to take home as a souvenir!
