As a lasagne aficionado, my declaration ‘possibly one of the best I’ve ever eaten’ is not to be taken lightly and when my friend said exactly the same, you know it’s good. The lasagne holy grail was discovered at Quoro Matto, a family run Italian restaurant and pizzeria in Epping, Essex. Located conveniently on Epping High Street, it was set back slightly, so it also had an outside terrace for sunnier weather.

We began with a shared garlic bread and had three options: regular, with tomato or tomato and mozzarella. As I also love a pizza, it had to be the latter and we weren’t disappointed with the rectangular pre-cut bread, which gave us at least three pieces each (although I think I snook in a fourth without the others noticing).

We then all opted for pasta, the excellent lasagne and penne broccoli and salsiccia – Italian sausage with broccoli, cherry tomato, chilli and wine sauce. It had the chilli symbol next to it and this was well deserved as the dish was deliciously spicy.

However, as well as pasta and pizza (around the £10 to £13 mark) the menu had a good range of both meat and fish dishes which were obviously more expensive.

The house white was a very reasonable £19.95 a bottle and had a very reasonable taste.

The service from an older Italian guy was friendly and professional and on leaving, we all decided it was well worth a return visit, although I suspect I might have the lasagne again.
