I have recently returned from a Singles holiday in the Aparthotel Oceanus in Olhus D’Agua, near Albufeira, Portugal. Although my apartment was in the annexe of the totes, I was amazed by how spacious it was considering I was on my own. I had a large lounge area with double wardrobe and safe (paid for if required). There were three single beds (yes, three!) with a partition that could be pulled across to make a proper bedroom. The kitchen incorporated a full-size fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, two burner hob, plenty of crockery, cutlery and pans, in fact everything I needed. There was a large bathroom with washbasin, loo and large shower with constant hot water. I had a dining area with table and three chairs, two comfortable chairs and a television with at least 3 English channels, which was handy to keep track of the Referendum and the Football Euros.
There was no entertainment in the hotel as it was fairly small but its proximity to the fishing village meant there was plenty to do. There was a nice outdoor pool with plenty of sun beds and there was also a lovely indoor pool in the main hotel building, although I didn’t use it as the weather was glorious all week. I did not use the hotel restaurant but heard other guests say their steaks were fantastic, and it was possible to get snacks and drinks most of the day. I paid for bed and breakfast, and the recently improved breakfast served in the building opposite the hotel was hot and very acceptable.
I loved Olhus D’Agua, a small one-street fishing village full of shops and good restaurants. There was a fabulous beach in a cove which was patrolled by three lifeguards who kept a good eye on the holidaymakers as the Atlantic coast is not as safe as the Med. There were two supermarkets very close to the hotel so if I felt like self-catering this was an option.
Altogether a great holiday and 7 days was not enough!
The only down side was the Singles holiday company which did not impress me or my fellow travellers and although I will almost certainly be returning to this hotel, it will be under my own steam next time.
