Lac de Pomport is a lovely campsite about 4 miles south of Bergerac, Dordogne, and therefore ideally placed for exploring local vineyards. The site itself is tucked away in a valley, with (as the name suggests) a lake used for swimming, fishing, kayaking etc. It has the usual swimming pool complex, restaurant and bar as well as a small shop- although for serious grocery shopping you will have to drive 1 mile to the nearest supermarket! The site has good-sized pitches and a variety of accommodation to rent (Check “Eurocamp”:https://www.eurocamp.co.uk/) One of the bonuses was the arrival of a different local winemaker each evening with the opportunity to taste, and purchase local wines at reasonable prices.
Nearby is Bergerac, with its wine museum and river trips on a traditional flat-bottomed “gabare”. St Emilion is about 25 miles away for more upmarket wine tasting, and about 5 miles south is the lovely Bastide village of Eymet with a busy weekly market, loads of artisanal shops and (bizarrely!) an English style bowling green.
This is a great place to explore the lower Dordogne without being in the tourist hotspots a few miles further east
