The quaint town of Pitlochry sits just less than an hours drive from Edinburgh and possesses one of the best theatre experiences outside London without the London prices. The Pitlochry Festival theatre produces a selection of productions each year and alternates them each week to enable a visitor to stay in the town for a few daysand see 2 or 3 excellent plays. Musicals, drama or comedy, the repertory company excells with them all and my wife and I make an annual visit, sometimes twice, touring the local beauty spots, sampling local dining and seeing the best in stage craft. The Theatre sits on a hill overlooking Pitlochry beside the river Tweed accessed by a swaying suspended bridge from the town centre. Seating in the theatre is laid out in such a way that everyone has a great view ( no pillars to obscure the stage) and they have their own restaurant that overlooks the river. This to me is theatrical heaven and needs to be experienced.
